Christian Gaines has been at the forefront of the film festival industry since 1998, beginning with the Cannes Film Festival, where he developed the American Pavilion for the Festival. He then went onto work for the Hawaii International Film Festival as Film Programmer, and then spent four years as Festival Director. He also spent two years as a Film Programmer for the Sundance Film Festival and was Director of New Media for the Sundance Institute.
In June 2000, Christian was appointed Director of Festivals at the American Film Institute (AFI), where he oversees several festival and film programming projects including AFI FEST presented by Audi, the annual AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival. Christian was instrumental in developing a strategic alliance with the American Film Market establishing the first concurrent festival/market partnership in North America. Christian received his B.A. degree in English from Vassar College. |
