Samsung Mobile Fresh Films is the nation’s leading filmmaking program exclusively for teens. Each year, teens from across the nation apply for a spot on one of nine all-teen film crews. Once the crews are filled, Samsung Mobile Fresh Films heads to our production cities with experienced instructors and the latest filmmaking technology. All you and your crew have to do is show up, work hard, and be creative to make a real, festival-quality short film in just seven days.

Oh, and be ready to promote your finished film for the chance to win a Powerbook Computer and a star-studded Premiere at the American Film Institute’s AFI Fest. And get profiled by media like MTV, Seventeen, and ABC. And make connections with filmmakers from all over the U.S., and the opportunity to build industry connections when our Hollywood Jury screens your finished films.

Teens work together over one week of summer break to create a 7-10 minute short film. You and your crew are responsible for every aspect of film production including casting, location scouting, shooting, editing, and creating the soundtrack. Each crew is assigned a genre film to produce: Uncommon Comedies, Drama/Thriller or Action Hero. When the films are finished, you’ll face off with other crews creating films in your genre for a jury award and fan favorite award, voted for by an online audience of millions. The film that wins the Viewer’s Choice Award will premiere at the Samsung Fresh Films YOUTH FEST 2008, an event within the the American Film Institute’s AFI Fest. The premiere will feature a day of youth filmmaking seminars, screenings, and celebration with industry professionals. Samsung Mobile Fresh Films producers will submit top-achieving films to national and international film festivals. So far, half of the submitted Samsung Mobile Fresh Films shorts have competed in juried festivals and 10 in categories making them eligible for Academy Award™ consideration. For the Jury Award, each film is scored and critiqued by a panel of film industry professionals. Our inaugural jury included acclaimed actor and author John Lithgow, director Katherine Brooks, and Napoleon Dynamite producer Jeremy Coon.
